Well, the ‘08 race season is done for me. I am sad to say that but the snow is on its way. I finished the season with 2nd place in the NYS Series. My teammate, Gerry got first in his class. This was a good finish for Team Greenfish this season. Now, it is time to focus on next year.
As the mountain biking season comes to a close. I thought I would give you a wrap up of whats been happening so far this summer. We started the season in April with the “Ramble Around Prattsburgh” on the western side of the state. A 30 mile Cross/Mountain bike race with @ 5038 feet of total climbing.
2 Hour 28 minutes. Next year, I’ll leave the cross bike home and bring my Zen with full suspension!
My busy summer season kicked in and didn’t leave much time for training and or racing. No Root 66 races this season, or H2H race either. That’s unfortunate because both of those series have more participants in my age group and are really competitive! I did make time for the New York State Mountain Bike series and am currently leading in the points. The final is on Sunday October 19th and anyone of 21 years or older may not want to miss some of that great German beer at Riedlbauer’s. More so, the great race that I’m sure Big Ring Productions will put on as well! Thats it for now. Wish me luck and maybe I’ll post some images or videos soon.
This past weekend, I made the 4 hour drive up to Postdam to meet up with the Clarkson University Bike club. The alarms went off and 6:00 am and we were at Camp Fortune in Gatineau, Quebec by 10 O’clock. Camp forturne is a small, locally run mountain about 15 minutes outside of Ottowa. They have some awesome trails though! I was just pumped that I wouldn’t have to climb up to ride down. Evidently our ten o’clock arrival was a bit to early for the locals, so we hiked up and took a run before the lifts opened at 11. Halfway up the mountain was when I started to wonder why I hadn’t left the 30 pound camera backpack in the car…it had the muscles in my calves screaming by the time we reached the top. After a short break, we headed down the trails. As it was my first time Downhilling, I decided to bring up the rear and take it easy. Just before dropping in the steep rock face at the top of the trail I just kept telling myself “Falling is not an option…your backpack is full of expensive camera gear. Just go with the flow, stay centered over the pedals, and look ahead.” We stopped to shoot some photos at a couple different spots on the trail, got some good shots, and made our way to the bottom. After leaving the camera bag in the car, we headed up the lift to take a few runs. My confidence was rising with each run we took. By the end of the day, I was riding things with my camera bag that I wouldn’t have ridden without it earlier in the day. Oh yeah, we got our new 3/4 sleeve Team Greenfish Jerseys in…check it out in the pictures:
Sky ripping through the berms
Randy, sending it through the trees
Sky doing the 8ft drop
Sky getting up there on the wallride.
Sky jumping throught the trees.
Definitely a great day of riding. I can’t wait to get back out there.

We awarded prizes to the top ten videos, and are handing out ten honorable mention prizes, not to mention the Greenfish T-Shirt that every competitor receives. Well, you’re probably here to check out the videos and see who won, so I won’t talk about the judging any more. Here are the winners:

Don’t forget…All contestants receive a Greenfish Adventure Sports T-shirt.
This weekend marked motocross race #2 for me. Last month it was Unadilla, this weekend it was Thunder Ridge. As I arrived, the first thing I saw was somebody coming back from their practice completely covered in mud. At this point I knew I would get some good shots regardless of the weather. It was muddy in the morning, and so dry in the afternoon that they started to spray the track to keep the dust down.
Casey had another good weekend, taking first overall with two wins. Ryan was fast all day, winning his first race, and placing third in his second race. He took second overall. Ryan took home first place at Supercross on Friday night in Little Falls. Once again I had a lot of fun and got some good shots. Check out all the photos here: You can check out all of the pictures here: http://www.tuckeredoutfilms.com/greenfish/thunderridge72708/

I ran into this guy (or girl) on my way home and helped it across the road. Although not to keen on moving quickly, after a while, I got it to safety. I had never seen a snapping turtle this big in the wild. It was about the size of my steering wheel:

This past weekend, I met up with Matt, Ryan, Casey, Rick, and Evan at the Unadilla District 3 motocross races. Rain threatened early in the day, but it turned out to be nice with lots of sun, and lots of riding. I spent most of the day around the middle of the track, near the gravity cavity (the largest jump on the course). I had never been to an MX race before, so I really had no idea what to expect. It turned out to be a lot of fun. We got some great pictures too. I’m excited to check out the next race.
Casey had a great day with two first place finishes, and first overall in the woman’s division. Coming off a first place finish last weekend, Ryan raced to two third place finishes this weekend for another solid outing. Rick and Jeremy battled it out all day in the over 30 class, each coming away with one win, and one second place finish. Rick will be racing in the amateur/expert class next time. You can check out some of the photos here: Unadilla MX Web Photo Album

This past weekend, Nevada Dave competed and won the 6 Hour Mens Solo Class of the Wisconsin Endurance Mountain Bike Series race. Check out the times here: http://www.wemseries.com/GEARS_2008.htm

My father and I have been trying to squeeze in a weekend trip to ski Mt. Washington all year. The weekend of the 17th turned out to be the last available weekend for us. Mother nature threatened all week, but we decided to stick it out. After a 5 hour drive through the rain to Paul and Linda’s house in Wilmot, NH., we were pretty beat. We had to stop in Albany to buy hiking boots. Great idea right? Buy Boots the night before a big hike. Things started to look a bit better at this point. Woke up Saturday morning to a blue sky and lots of sun. After some packing and a good breakfast, we(Rich, Sharon, Paul, Linda, and myself) piled into the subaru for an hour drive to the Pinkham Notch base camp.
Half way there, Paul realized that he had left his hiking boots at the house. Luckily he was able to find a pair of cheap used boots in an outdoor store in Conway. We had no more hiking boot issues from this point on. At Pinkham, the parking lot was almost full. Lots of people showed to take advantage of the great day it turned out to be.
Mt. Washington in the distance.
We made the 2.4 mile hike to the ranger station in great time. While eating lunch, we decided to ski Hillman Highway, rather than Tuckerman Ravine as we had originally planned. This turned out to be a good choice, since it was a lot longer than the skiable section of Tuck’s. Located just to the left of Tuck’s, Hillman proved to be quite the hike. This is where it became a two man hike. Paul, Linda, and Sharon waited at the bottom fo the run to watch us ski down. Six tenths of a mile up a 45 degree slope on snow with a 38 pound pack is a good workout. At the top, we found a group of people taking a break before their trip down.
The view from the top was awesome…pictures don’t do it justice. You’ve gotta be there in person. We handed out a few free Greenfish Tee-shirts to those lucky enough. After taking some pictures, throwing on the ski pants and boots we headed down. It’s amazing how light my pack felt without my skis and boots strapped to it.
At the top of “Hillman Highway,” Mt. Washington
The spring conditions and moguls all the way down made for a great run. Check out the “VholdR helmet camera demo” video on Greenfish TV for some of the footage. You can view more pictures from our adventure here: Mt. Washington Trip Pictures. After all the wondering about bad weather, it turned out to be a great trip.
We even got to do some kayaking on Sunday before heading home. There is some video of that along with the skiing footage.
If you’ve ever got a chance, it’s well worth the hike up Mt. Washington for the skiing, hiking, view and overall experience. For more info check out: http://tuckerman.org/
